  • Wine Market Report | Wine | Seoul ATO | Korea - Republic of | March 31, 2021

South Korean wine imports reached a record $330 million in 2020, up 27 percent from 2019. Imports from the United States totaled $56 million, up 65 percent. Wine grew in popularity during the pandemic as people choose wine as a beverage of choice for drinking at home. The increase in young wine consumers and the growing popularity of wine will likely generate additional growth opportunities for U.S. wine in Korea in coming years.
  • Food Processing Ingredients | Food Processing Ingredients | Seoul ATO | Korea - Republic of | March 21, 2021

Korea has a strong food processing industry that manufactures a wide variety of food and beverage products. It relies heavily on imports for ingredients. As a result, the Korean food processing industry offers an outstanding opportunity for imported agricultural products for processing use, including basic commodities such as wheat and soybeans, intermediate ingredients such as vegetable oils and fruit juice concentrates, and food additives such as flavors and coloring agents. The food processing industry generated 76 trillion Korean Won ($65.2 billion) in sales in 2019, up four percent from 2018.
  • Beer Market Report | Beverages | Seoul ATO | Korea - Republic of | March 03, 2021

U.S. beer exports to South Korea totaled $35 million in 2020, up 3 percent from the previous year. Overall Korean beer imports, in contrast, declined 19 percent to $227 million due to weak on-premise sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Korean government adopted a volume-based liquor tax for beer... on January 1, 2020, which reduces the tax burden for higher quality beers, including imported U.S. craft beer. The tax change along with increased Korean consumer demand for quality and diversity should generate growth opportunities for U.S. beer exports to Korea in coming years.
  • Dairy and Products Annual | Dairy and Products | Seoul ATO | Korea - Republic of | December 10, 2020

Domestic milk production is forecast to return to 2.03 million tons after spiking to 2.1 million tons in 2020. Milk production in 2020 benefited from favorable weather and higher price expectations. At the same time, COVID-19 related school closures resulted in weaker fluid milk demand. The resulting imbalance resulted in higher dried milk production and large dried milk stocks.
