Summary: CJ Foodville announced that it had opened seven new ‘Tous les Jours’ bakery shops in three foreign countries in September. CJ added that additionally over 20 new ‘Tous les Jours’ shops will open in foreign countries by the end of this year.

People Eat Chocolate for Diet? … Koreans to Eat More Chocolate [Korean, OSY]

Summary: According to the industry, sales of chocolate in Korea this year would total 200 billion won, up 16 percent from last year. Marketers agree that increased consumption of chocolate is due to increased consumer awareness about health benefits of eating chocolate such as lowering blood pressure and removal of oxidants. Marketers point out that Korean’s average consumption of chocolate is still far less than consumers in developed countries. As of 2009 data from International Confectionary Association, per capita chocolate consumption in Korea was 1.2 kg. Germany showed the highest consumption at 11.3 kg, followed by England and Swiss (both over 10 kg). Japan was 2.1 kg.
