¡°Spanish Wine Should Be the Winner of Korea-EU FTA¡±, CEO of Spanish Wine Company [Korean, OSY]

Summary: Machacek Torres, CEO of Miguel Torres Winery in Spain, said in a press interview in Seoul on April 20 that Spanish wines will see a big increase in demand in Korea once the Korea-EU FTA goes into effect.  Mr. Torres added that elimination of import tariff under the FTA will all Spanish wines to provide better value to the Korean consumers.

 

Pulmoowon Opens A New Temperature-Controlled Distribution Center [Korean, OSY]

Summary: Pulmoowon, a leading processor of various chilled processed food such as tofu and packaged bean sprout in Korea, opened a new temperature-controlled distribution center in Eumsung, Chungbook province on April 20.  The distribution center is the largest facility for a temperature-controlled warehouse in Korea at 42,000 sq. meter space.  It has the capacity to distribute products to any retail store in Korea within 3 hours. Much of the operation is automated.

Police Arrests Two for Smuggling Sausages and Hams from the U.S. [Korean, OSY]

Summary: Korean Customs Office announced on April 21 that two traders have been arrested for smuggling sausages and hams from the U.S.  The products, disguised as hair shampoo shipment, were not accompanied by export inspection certificates of American government.  Total value of the confiscated products was 1.4 billion won.

 

Customs Office Caught North Korean Crabs Disguised as Chinese Crabs [Korean, OSY]

Summary: Busan Customs Office reported that it had confiscated 38 tons of frozen North Korean crabs imported as Chinese crabs under fake country of origin document.  The local importer was arrested, and the investigation revealed that the crabs were transshipped through China to fake the origin.
