Summary: There are growing worries around the world for food shortage.  Grain production is not keeping up with population growth partly due to climate change and disruption of environment due to pollution.  Biotech researchers around the world, including many local institutes, are working hard to come up with solutions to deal with the rising risk.  In particular, genetic tools are likely to be the key solution.  Researchers have identified many genes that allow plant to grow under extreme climate conditions such as drought, flood, and frost.
