Largest Duck Meat Packing Plant in Asia Opened in Korea [Korean, OSY]

Summary: Korea Duckurd, the leading duck meat packer in Korea announced that it had opened a new packing plant in Junranamdo province on May 28.  The packer said the plant, 33,000 sq. meter space, is the largest duck meat packing plant in Asia and can process 72,000 birds a day.

Summary: When the Park Geun-hye administration was campaigning, one of their major platforms was the development of a ¡°creative economy¡± within Korea. Now that this administration has taken office, many are curious as to the state of the development of the creative economy, and the government¡¯s plans moving forward. Korea IT Times recently sat down with the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, Lee Dong Phil to discuss a number of issues related to the creative economy, and the contributions that will be made from the agricultural sector.

Various transformations of idle land into gardens

Summary: In Seoul, the urban agriculture movement is gaining momentum. Unused patches of land owned by the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) are being used as community vegetable gardens.   The unused land near the Gayang Bridge will be used to teach farming techniques. LH has agreed to let 15,000§³ of land in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, LH Heungdeok District, originally planned to be used for a high school in 2018, be used by refarm.org, a ¡®return to the soil¡¯ NGO, as a shared vegetable garden. This land was cultivated without permission in the past, using pesticides and chemical fertilizers, while also being filled with trash. The opening ceremony will take place on May 25.
