Rice Harvest This Year Likely to be a 20 Year Lowest [Korean, OSY]
Summary: Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery, and Food (MAFF) has announced recently its forecast for rice harvest this year. According to the forecast based on sample surveys of 600 local rice fields, Korea was expected to harvest 4.26 million metric tons of rice this year, which would be the lowest harvest since 1980, and 40,000 metric tons less than last year. MAFF added that the low harvest this year would not result in stronger rice price next year because the harvest would still be sufficient to cover the annual demand for rice in Korea, which is about 4.18 million metric tons.

74% of Independent Bakery Stores Want to Join Franchise Chain [Korean, OSY]
Summary: According to a recent survey by Franchise Research Institute, over three out of four owners of independent bakery stores wanted to switch to a franchise bakery chain for stronger brand awareness. The institute explained that the survey result reflected rising popularity of bakery stores under leading franchise bakery chains.

Summary: According to the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy, total number of ¡°super supermarket (SSM)¡± stores in Korea reached 1,026 at the end of August this year. Lotte Super was the largest SSM company with 280 stores, followed by Home Plus Express (236 stores) and GS Super (203 stores).
