Summary: South Korea will add 14 more items to the list of imports subject to lower tariffs next month in an effort to ease price hikes of raw materials that could drive up overall inflationary pressure, the finance ministry said Tuesday.  Breeding pigs, silicon, manganese, sheepskin and other raw materials are among those goods subject to lower or zero tariffs by the end of this year, according to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

International research institute will promote environment-related study

Summary: President Lee Myung-bak unveiled the next step in his green growth vision yesterday, saying Korea will establish an international research institute this year to help promote the study of environment-related technologies.   The Green Technology Center will focus on developing environmentally friendly technologies together with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and leading foreign research institutes. The plans will be carried out in conjunction with the country’s science belt in Daedeok, Gyeonggi, which will be home to research complexes.
