Summary: Wholesale price of pork meat marked 6,058 won per kg on November 21, up 37.9 percent from a year ago.  Meat industry analysts commented that reduced supply of pork meat in the international market due to a swine disease as well as increased demand by local consumers due to avian influenza concerns has resulted in a significant increase of pork meat price in Korea over the last several months.  Price of imported beef has also increased significantly this year mainly due to reduced supply from the U.S.  For example, retail price of Australian beef in a local grocery store has increased 13 to 34 percent this year.  Food processors, including hamburger restaurant chains and ham processors are reportedly considering to increase the price of their products to compensate for the increase of the ingredient cost.
