Avian Influenza Further Spreads ... 3.4 MillionBirds were Depopulated over the Last 20 Days Since the First Outbreak [Korean,OSY]

Summary:According to the Korea Ministry of Agriculture (MAFRA), outbreaks of AvianInfluenza have been reported in additional locations throughout Korea (exceptfor Gyeongnam province).  It has been 20 days since the first outbreak wasreported in Korea and a total of 3.38 million chicken and ducks have beendepopulated so far in the areas of outbreaks as of midnight December 4. MAFRA added that the outbreak this year is by H5N6 type virus and isshowing much higher death rate and quicker transfer compared to the previousoutbreak in 2014-2015 which was by H5N8 type virus. 

 

Sales of Packaged Instant Coffee Mixes on a Decline... Companies Launch New, Liquid Type Products to Boost Sales [Korean, OSY]

Summary:According to data compiled by the Korea Agro-Fishery Marketing Corporation,sales of instant, packaged coffee mixes this year is forecast to total 98billion won, down 9 percent from the previous year.  The decline of thesales is due to further expansion of the cafe market, which is likely togenerate 4 trillion won of sales this year.  As a result, leadingprocessors of the instant, packaged coffee mix industry are making effort tolaunch new products to boost the sales.  For example, Namyang launchedindividual packaged, liquid type, instant 'cafe latte' in October.  HankukYakult launched liquid type, cold brew instant coffee packs earlier thisyear.  These products target to attract consumers from the cafe marketwith low price and better taste.

 

Credit Card Spending Data Indicates that"Kim-Young-Lan (Anti-corruption) Act" Had Little Impact on RestaurantSales [Korean, OSY]

Summary:A report released by Korea Lending & Finance Institute (KLFI) on November25 indicates that implementation of Kim-Young-Lan Act (anti-corruptionregulation which went into effect on September 28, 2016) has had little impacton the sale of restaurants during the first month after implementation. LFI pointed out in the report that national credit card spending data itanalyzed for the month of October 2016 showed 7.9 percent growth in spending inrestaurants compared to October 2015.  On the other hand, the data showed5.5 percent decline in spending in bars during the month.
